Local SEO helps businesses rank in search results for location-based queries — "plumber near me", "best pizza in Draper Utah", "theatre ticketing software for schools". If your business serves a specific geographic area, local SEO is one of the highest-ROI investments you can make.

What Drives Local Rankings?

Ranking FactorEstimated WeightWhat It Means
Google Business Profile~36%The single most important local SEO factor. Completeness, accuracy, and activity all matter.
On-Page Signals~16%Local keywords in title tags, headers, and content. NAP on every page.

Google Business Profile Optimization

Your Google Business Profile (GBP) is the most important local SEO asset you have. A fully optimized GBP can get you into the "Local Pack" — the 3 businesses that appear in a map at the top of local search results.

Business name matches exactly what's on your website and storefront
Complete address with suite/unit number if applicable
Local phone number (not an 800 number)
Website URL pointing to your homepage
Primary and secondary business categories selected
Business hours accurate and updated for holidays
Business description written with local keywords
At least 10 high-quality photos uploaded
Services or products listed with descriptions
Responding to all reviews (positive and negative)
Posting updates at least once per week
Q&A section answered with keyword-rich responses

NAP Consistency

NAP stands for Name, Address, Phone number. Your NAP must be identical across every online listing — your website, Google Business Profile, Yelp, Facebook, industry directories, and anywhere else you appear. Even small differences (like "St." vs "Street") can confuse search engines and hurt rankings.

Common NAP Mistakes

  • • Using different phone numbers on different listings
  • • Abbreviating "Street" as "St" in some places and not others
  • • Old address still showing on directories after moving
  • • Business name spelled differently (Inc. vs LLC vs no suffix)

Local Keywords

Local keywords include your city, neighborhood, or region. Instead of targeting "custom software development", target "custom software development Draper Utah" or "custom software development Salt Lake City".

Where to Use Local Keywords

  • Title tag: "Custom Software Development Draper Utah | Metorox"
  • H1: "Custom Software Development in Draper, Utah"
  • First paragraph of content
  • Footer: "Serving businesses in Draper, Salt Lake City, and across Utah"
  • LocalBusiness schema markup

Review Management

Reviews are both a ranking signal and a conversion signal. More reviews + higher ratings = better local rankings + more customers choosing you over competitors.

Getting More Reviews

  • • Ask every satisfied customer directly
  • • Send a follow-up email with a review link
  • • Add a review link to your email signature
  • • Create a QR code for in-person requests

Responding to Reviews

  • • Respond to every review within 24 hours
  • • Thank positive reviewers by name
  • • Address negative reviews professionally
  • • Include keywords naturally in responses
